Don't Give Up On Your Spiritual Practice - Taizan 10 AM - 11 AM
Date: March 6, 2022
Come join Soto Zen priest, Tai Alford, as he explores the idea of renewing faith from a Buddhist perspective. What is it that keeps you coming back again and again to spiritual practice? Whether it’s walking in the woods, being of service to other people, or sitting on a cushion, there is a way to tap into a place of replenishment even in the midst of difficulty.
Guest Bio: Tai Alford has been a member of the Fox Valley UU Fellowship since 1997. A meditator and yoga practitioner since the 1980s, Tai began Zen training in 2013 and with Clouds in Water Zen Center and received home leaving ordination from his teacher, Sōsan Flynn, in 2016. Tai lives in Appleton with his husband Tom and enjoys songwriting and performing in his spare time.

RE Focus: How does UUism use covenanting to renew our faith?
We trust and hope that our actions will be governed by the promises we make in our covenants. It’s all a way of celebrating how our faith reminds us, "It is our promises that make us feel safe, connected and strong." Any questions please contact Rev. Jim at jimuumin@gmail.com

Benjamin Cruz-Uribe: Mary Magdalene: The First... 10 AM - 11 AM
Date: March 13, 2022
MARY MAGDALENE: THE FIRST CHRISTIAN - Prof. Benjamin Cruz-Uribe.
Much has been said about Mary Magdalene in books, movies, and internet websites. Unfortunately, most of what is said is incorrect, invented, and just plain untrue. What we today really know of Mary comes from the four Canonical Gospels as well as a series on non-canonical Gospels. From these various sources, we can say that she was a witness to Jesus of Nazareth’s crucifixion, death, burial, and resurrection. In fact, Mary Magdalene was the first person to see Jesus after his resurrection and she proclaimed this event to the rest of the Apostles and Disciples of Jesus. She is the First Christian.

RE Focus: We renew faith in ourselves by trusting our gifts.
Each person has gifts inside of themselves. Our religion reminds us that we have inherent worth. Part of what this means is that we have the strength and gifts within us to help others and help ourselves. Any questions please contact Rev. Jim at jimuumin@gmail.com

Rev. Karon Sandberg: It’s Hard to Offer You Love.. 10 AM - 11 AM
Date: March 20, 2022
"It’s Hard to Offer You Love and Compassion When I Want to Punch You in the Face "
A provocative title, I know, but certainly a feeling we may be experiencing during these troubling times. As Unitarian Universalists we are called to believe in the inherent worth and dignity of all people. And yet many of us may have friends and family, let alone strangers, who we struggle to understand their politics and ideologies. Join us as we explore ways to lean into to the framework of our principles to find and renew ways in which we can welcome the other with dignity and respect.

We renew faith in each other by joining forces for the common good.
Our faith teaches us that, together, we have the ability to change the world. It is comforting to remember that we don’t have to go it alone. But looking to those beside us and those who have gone before us, we gain confidence that “yes, we can!” Any questions please contact Rev. Jim at jimuumin@gmail.com

What Faith Am I Renewing, Anyway? - Rev. Jim 10 AM - 11 AM
Date: March 27, 2022
Unitarian Universalists are continually called to renew our hopeful faith in a better world. Sadly, sometimes such an optimistic faith may feel pointless because humans seem so intent on destroying themselves. We believe in the inherent goodness and the universal salvation of humanity and these truths still call us into the light of hope in spite of the darkness we confront every day.

Children’s RE Focus: We renew our trust in life’s goodness and simple gifts.
Consumer society and social media tell us we are not enough and don’t have enough. Our faith disagrees. It calls us to notice the many everyday joys and gifts that we already and always possess. Any questions please contact Rev. Jim at jimuumin@gmail.com
