As UUs, we sometimes struggle with defining our spirituality, and the conventional words don't seem to fit. Indeed, some of us have complicated past experiences with the religions of our childhoods. Forrest Church, longtime minister of the United Church of All Souls in NYC and author of more than two dozen books challenges us to reframe the word "religion" in his sermon "You Say You're Not Religious."

Clint Bartlett is hosting a viewing of "Close Encounters of the Fifth Kind", a movie about making first contact with extraterrestrial life forms and UAPs (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena). This is a timely topic, as the US Government has recently declassified a number of videos taken from military aircraft of UAPs, and encouraged pilots and personnel to report UAP sightings. Various committees in the Senate and House have been created to investigate UAPs and their origins. The viewing will be this Saturday at Open Circle.

Gaia's Gifts: Exploring Edible Plants - We can all become depressed and discouraged by the news about ecosystem collapse, biodiversity loss and climate chaos. There are ways big and small to push back against these seemingly insurmountable problems. Emilyn will be talking about the permaculture design system and the food forest project she started on her property during COVID and how projects like these can be part of the wider effort to mitigate climate chaos.

Debbie Wagner, LCSW, SAC is a retired clinical social worker, having worked at Winnebago Mental Health Institute for 27 years and 3 previous years with the WI Dept. of Corrections. She is an accomplished musician who teaches guitar and ukulele in Appleton, Texas & TN. She is a Unitarian Universalist and lives in Appleton.
Bev Gudex, MSW, APSW – has 33+ years in community mental health and is the Administrator at Berry House in Fond du Lac. Program/resource development has been her forte. Unlike Debbie, she has no musical talent. Bev has been with OCUUF since its first public meeting in 2004 and lives in FDL.
They will discuss community paths forward for people living with a severe and persistent mental illness.

Some people refer to Unitarian Universalists as people of little faith. (Even some UUs do.) I say they are wrong. And my sermon, I hope, will show you why.
Bio: Rev. Dr. Tony Larsen recently retired from being the minister at Unitarian Church North in Mequon for 4 years. Before that he served 42 years at Olympia Brown Unitarian Universalist Church in Racine. Tony was born in South San Francisco, California in 1949 and studied to be a Catholic priest for 10 years before switching to the UU ministry, being ordained in 1975.

Pleas join Mike Hayes Saturday for our first cleanup for 2023 which is our 18th year. We begin at 8:30 am near our Open Circle UU sign on highway 23 west of Fondy just beyond County Road I (eye). You will see our sign with an orange clean up symbol on it. Look for his blue car along our stretch of highway with the trunk up. You will find vests which you must wear (and return to my car when you have completed) and large bags you can help yourself to. Children must be 11 years old or in 5th grade. We usually complete the cleanup in around 1 hour. If the weather is inclement, Mike emails everyone by 7 am. So he will need your name and email address in order to do that.
